Ich bin eine Rose

Last night marked a momentous occasion in my life. I got a new tattoo. This tattoo holds so much meaning and represents so many different things, some of the things I might not even be aware of yet. It represents strength, beauty, passion, perseverance, melancholy and pain.

It says "I am a rose" in German. Delicate yet thorny, beautiful yet guarded, wild yet familiar. This tattoo is the dawn of a new era, a new Tina. Love me, but be careful. Fuck with me, you will get hurt.

On the eve of the much anticipated election, my friend and I were discussing politics, Mormons and Jon Stewart. A Picture is Worth...

...1,000 words? We all know the old adage, but I think a picture can be worth a lot more. I'm not sure about you, but I have always had a vivid imagination. I would often envision myself as a successful and glamorous actress, rock star, top model, princess or other rich and famous person, and somehow that person in my head, whatever form they took, looked thinner, taller, prettier and certainly better styled. The "perfect" ideal has unfortunately been planted in our heads from a very young age. My coveted Barbies, once treasured playthings, now symbolize for me much of what is wrong with our perfection-driven society. We are supposed to look "perfect." Even emaciated models who are size 0 or 2 (think Victoria Beckham) have their arms and legs photoshopped in ads. The night before we made plans, my friend joked around in his inappropriate way. He was going to pick me up and whip out his wiener. Lots of LOLs ensued.
